River Kwai Bridge Week, Kanchanaburi
A light-and-sound show at the famous bridge, plus fairs and remembrance. When it happens and how to plan your stay.
River Kwai Bridge Week is held in Kanchanaburi from about late November to early December. It commemorates the history of the Thailand–Burma Railway, built during the Second World War, and draws visitors to the town for its evening shows and fair.
What happens
The main event is a light-and-sound show at the bridge, recreating the wartime history of the railway, including bombing raids, with fireworks and effects. During the day and evening, a large fair with food stalls, exhibitions and entertainment takes place near the bridge.
Tips
- Combine the show with daytime visits to the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, the Thailand–Burma Railway Centre and Hellfire Pass.
- Riverside hotels near the bridge fill up quickly, especially at weekends.
- The cool season is a good time to explore the province’s national parks and waterfalls.
