Staying in Jomtien, Chon Buri

Updated |Editorial policy

A long beach south of Pattaya, popular with families and long-stay visitors. What Jomtien is like and how it compares with central Pattaya.

Jomtien Beach stretches for several kilometres south of Pattaya, on the other side of Pratumnak Hill. It is part of the same urban area but has a calmer, more residential feel, with condominiums, seafood restaurants and water sports.

What it is like

The beach road is lined with restaurants, bars and small hotels, and is popular with Thai families at weekends and long-stay foreign visitors in winter. The northern end, near Pratumnak, is the most developed; the southern stretch towards Na Jomtien is quieter, with larger resorts.

Who it suits

Jomtien suits families, long-stay travellers and anyone who wants a quieter base with easy access to Pattaya. It is also a good place for kitesurfing and windsurfing when the wind is up.

Getting around

Baht buses connect Jomtien with central Pattaya, a ride of about 15–20 minutes. Ride-hailing apps and motorbike taxis are widely available.

When to go

November to March is the most comfortable period. The rainy season, roughly June to October, brings showers but the area is visited all year.
